Finger Puppet Heaven is:
“a place where the joy and innocent delight of the child comes alive in your hands
a place where learning about people and environment happens spontaneously through fun and laughter
a place where business becomes fair and caring”
FPH came about like many great Kiwi ideas through the open eyes and open heart of the typical Kiwi wanderer. For me the great OE lasted nearly a decade and at its end I found myself in the high Andes of Peru, marveling at the simplicity of the lives people live there and the abundance of joy even in the face of immense hardship.
Looking for a business idea that could make a real difference I stumbled upon grinning street urchins selling these colourful finger puppets. Back in New Zealand at markets in and around Auckland I saw the same grinning faces on our children and I also saw how the sternest adult couldn’t help but crack a smile when they saw them…
That’s when I knew what i wanted to do!
I knew that global trade was mostly a very unfair business so I set about making FPH Fair Trade from start to finish. We only source fair trade finger puppets. But we’re also going one step further by funding community schooling in Peru with a share of our profits (for more about this side of FPH see the section on Winaypak School)
